New Grass Runway

Challenge

The special task of this grass runway is to produce the technically highest stress for the runways. Due to the intensive project preparation, all components were brought together to form a stable construction. Beginning with the mineral base layer over the necessary gradient coordinates for safe drainage without drainage. Finally with the grass seed selection and the installation of TERRA-GRID E® 35.

Target

The soil was pre-examined at various points using the CBR measurement. The unsustainable areas were exchanged and replaced with mineral mixture. When leveling the runway, the slope line was designed as a barrel vault and the upper soil area was enriched with humus for good grass growth.

Result

After the installation of TERRA-GRID E® 35 and the corresponding compaction during laying, a grass runway could be created, which can absorb maximum loads for a natural runway. No standing water and a year-round flying season.

Redevelopement Runway

Challenge

Soft grass runways are an old and vexing problem in general aviation. Flight safety and flight season is very limited. The use of TERRA-GRID E® 35 is used for the runway renovation in Leverkusen EDKL.

Target

The TERRA-GRID E® 35 grass reinforcement grids were laid out on the short-mowed lawn and rolled in directly. The entire construction section was relocated and installed within a week, and air traffic could be resumed immediately.
